My background is in English language teaching, starting out in ESOL and moving into English for Academic Purposes (EAP). Upon realising that EAP programmes were largely inaccessible to students from refugee backgrounds, I set to work developing programmes, practical initiatives and research focusing on widening participation for these students to Higher Education in the UK, particularly through trauma-informed English language provision. I’m dedicated to working to break down systemic barriers to education for refugee-background students, wherever they may be in the world. I spend my free time reading, walking my dog, and engaging in community activism, particularly around Palestine.
